AUSTRAC accuses Star of laundering via fictitious hotel stays

AUSTRAC has issued serious allegations against Star Entertainment, claiming it facilitated laundering by instructing Chinese gamblers to swipe UnionPay cards at hotel terminals for fake room charges.

These schemes allegedly allowed funds to bypass CUP gambling restrictions, enabling transfers to the casino under the guise of hotel payments.

The allegations come as AUSTRAC seeks up to A$400 million in penalties, warning that Star’s survival could be jeopardised if found guilty
