A major Australian betting syndicate has dramatically collapsed after its young founder was kidnapped and threatened by an alleged organised crime network, leaving investors facing losses of over $1.5 million.

Worldwide Sporting Investments (WSI), run by 28-year-old Tyler Roberts, has been placed into court-ordered liquidation with debts totalling approximately $1.5 million.

The shocking case began in April 2025 on the Sunshine Coast, when Roberts and his girlfriend Mariah Burr-McLean were allegedly abducted outside their home by members linked to the notorious Alameddine crime network.

According to police reports, the couple was taken to a nearby apartment where Roberts was threatened with violence unless he repaid a large debt. At one stage, he reportedly feared for his life. The situation only ended after his girlfriend managed to alert friends and family using her phone, prompting a rapid police response.

Seven people have since been arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping.

Massive Investor Losses Court documents reveal that WSI has almost no funds left — less than $1,000 in its accounts. Creditors, including three major investors, are claiming losses of $1.28 million, with additional claims pushing the total closer to $1.5 million.

Roberts claims a former business partner disappeared with millions, but this has not been independently verified. Liquidators have warned that the chances of recovering significant money for investors are very low.

What This Means for Australian Bettors

This high-profile collapse serves as a stark warning about the dangers of unregulated betting syndicates and private investment schemes operating outside licensed frameworks.

When money, gambling, and organised crime mix, the risks are extremely high. For Australian players, the message is clear: stick to licensed and reputable betting platforms with proper regulation and transparency.
